Real Estate in downtown Breckenridge will serve as the scene for the amazing abilities of the sixteen team from around the world in the 19th annual Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Competition. Tuesday is when the teams start to chisel their 10 foot x 10 foot square block of snow. The competition will take place in the Riverwalk Center which is the area of prime in-town Breckenridge real estate. The teams are from Bulgaria, Canada, China, Germany, Mexico, Nederlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United States. Last year, China was the champion, even though they were two men short. They will be back to defend their title. The teams are not allowed to use any power tools. The sculptures are made completely by hand.
The snow for the event is all made by Breckenridge Ski Resort and the town uses it’s truck and heavy equipment do make the 10 foot squares. The snow is then manually stomped down to pack it tight. The event was named by USA Today as one of the 10 best celebrations of winter and attracts more than 30,000 people.
